Linda Lappin wins Nautilus Award, Organizes Workshop in Greece, July 7 -13, 2016
April 19, 2016LINDA LAPPIN WINS NAUTILUS BOOK AWARD IN CREATIVE PROCESS CATEGORY for THE SOUL OF PLACE. Join her this summer on the Greek island of Andros for a Soul of Place Writing Workshop. See details below.
Author and Writing Teacher Linda Lappin won a gold medal in the prestigious Nautilus Awards, taking the top prize in the category CREATIVE PROCESS for her multigenre creative writing book The Soul of Place - A Creative Writing Workbook: Ideas and Exercises for Conjuring the Genius Loci. Now in its eighteenth year, the Nautilus Book Awards program honors, rewards, and promotes world-changing books that inspire and connect our lives as individuals, communities, and global citizens. Awards are given in 24 categories in children and adult titles supporting green values, spiritual growth, conscious living, and high-level wellness. Previous winners include Julia Cameron, Betty Edwards, Catherine Ann Jones, Andrew Weil, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Lappin departs from the classical concept of the Genius Loci, the indwelling spirit residing in every landscape, house, city, or forest—to argue that by entering into contact with the unique energy and identity of a place, writers can access an inexhaustible source of creative power. Her new creative writing workbook provides instruction on how to evoke that power.
The Soul of Place investigates the links between place and identity, offering itineraries of stimulating multigenre exercises for beginners and advanced writers to explore their environments. National Geographic Intelligent Traveler listed it among fifteen top books for vicarious travellers.
Lappin will be teaching a SOUL OF PLACE WORKSHOP @ the Aegean Arts Circle on the Greek island of Andros - July 2016.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
We will be working with the exercises and ideas in Linda’s new book the THE SOUL OF PLACE – A CREATIVE WRITING WORKBOOK: Ideas and Exercises for Conjuring the Genius Loci
Linda’s soul of place exercises have been featured in The Writer Magazine and Text .
The purpose of this workshop is to generate new ideas, material, and approaches to creative writing projects in all genres and to unlock unexplored sources of inspiration concealed in our environment and in our memories. We will be investigating our deeper connections to places both familiar and exotic, rural and urban, natural and artificial, real and imaginary through a series of writing exercises and assignments intended to help writers conjure the soul of place. Some of the themes addressed will be: landscape narratives, flânerie, pilgrimage, deep maps and desire maps, labyrinths, childhood and sacred space, islands and isolation, solitude and non-places, the mythic and the surreal. The workshop is open to writers of all genres.
Workshop Schedule:Each morning we will work with a couple of themes in class, using whatever genre suits the individual writers best-- journaling, poetry, prose, short fiction, travel essay, memoir. Assignments will be given for the following day, when we will share our new writing in class. Afternoons will be set aside for writing and exploration. In the evening, we will meet up for dinner to discuss our progress. Writers may request a private conference with the instructor during the conference.
